Modern Slavery Statement
Organisation
This statement is made on behalf of Future Tech Events (referred to as “the Organisation”). It applies to the financial year ending 2024 and is made in accordance with Section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Organisational Structure
Future Tech Events is a privately owned UK-based small business specialising in the organisation and management of award events. We operate from a single office located in London, UK, with a small team of employees and trusted freelance event professionals.
The Organisation is overseen by its Chief Executive Officer, who is responsible for all strategic decisions, supported by the Director and a small team. We do not operate any branches outside of the UK.
Activities
Our primary activity is planning and delivering corporate and public award events. This includes venue sourcing, event logistics, guest management, marketing, and coordination with suppliers such as caterers, printers, audio-visual companies, and venues.
Our business activities are not seasonal; we operate throughout the year, although certain events may create periods of increased activity.
All labour provided to Future Tech Events is based in the UK.
Definitions
Future Tech Events considers modern slavery to encompass:
-
Human trafficking;
-
Forced, bonded or compulsory labour;
-
Dehumanisation, abuse or control by an employer;
-
Being treated as a commodity or owned by another person;
-
Restrictions placed on freedom of movement or coercion.
Commitment
Future Tech Events is fully committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in its operations and supply chains. We comply with all applicable employment laws and exceed statutory minimums to ensure fair working conditions for our employees and contractors.
We will not knowingly conduct business with any supplier or contractor involved in slavery, servitude, or forced labour.
Supply Chains
Our supply chains are relatively simple and primarily UK-based. They include:
-
Venues and event spaces;
-
Catering services;
-
Print and design suppliers;
-
Freelance event staff (e.g., photographers, AV technicians).
We assess suppliers based on their reputation, compliance with UK employment standards, and adherence to ethical practices.
Potential Exposure
Given the nature of our services and UK-based operations, we consider the risk of modern slavery within our business and supply chain to be low. However, we remain vigilant when engaging new suppliers, especially in areas such as temporary staffing or goods procurement.
Impact of COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic did not increase the risk of modern slavery in our operations as we rely on UK-based, regulated suppliers. Remote working and reduced event activity limited our exposure to external suppliers during this period.
Steps Taken
To mitigate the risk of modern slavery, Future Tech Events has taken the following measures:
-
Vetting key suppliers to ensure ethical labour practices.
-
Including terms in supplier agreements that allow termination for non-compliance with the Modern Slavery Act.
-
Raising awareness among staff and contractors regarding ethical sourcing.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
We measure our effectiveness by:
-
Reviewing supplier compliance annually.
-
Monitoring any complaints or concerns raised through our grievance processes.
-
Ensuring no breaches of modern slavery practices in our operations or supply chain.
Policies
We have adopted internal policies that reflect our commitment to ethical practices, including:
-
A Supplier Code of Conduct;
-
A Recruitment Policy ensuring fair employment standards;
-
A Whistleblowing Policy enabling reporting of unethical behaviour.
Training
We provide periodic awareness training to all staff on ethical practices, including modern slavery risks, particularly for those involved in procurement or supplier management.
Slavery Compliance Officer
The Director of Future Tech Events acts as the Slavery Compliance Officer and is responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
This statement will be reviewed annually and approved by the Board of Directors.
